Privacy Policy

Courtesy translation. The German version of the Datenschutzerklärung is the legally binding one.

1. Privacy at a glance

We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the statutory data protection regulations (GDPR, German BDSG, German TDDDG) and this privacy policy. This website uses no analytics or tracking services and sets no cookies for advertising or tracking purposes.

2. Controller

The controller within the meaning of Art. 4 No. 7 GDPR is:

Bernhard Philipps
Düsseldorfer Privatzimmer
Eifgenweg 7
40625 Düsseldorf
Phone: 0211 / 23 11 66
Email: familiephilipps@t-online.de

A data protection officer is not legally required and has not been appointed.

3. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Ave #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you visit the website, Vercel automatically processes technically necessary data in so-called server log files, in particular:

  • IP address of the requesting device
  • date and time of access
  • page or file accessed
  • browser type and version, operating system
  • referrer URL

Processing is based on Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the secure, stable and performant provision of the website and in defending against attacks. Log data is not merged with other data sources and is automatically deleted after a short time. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 (2)(c) GDPR) and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which Vercel is certified. More information: Vercel Privacy Policy.

4. Contact form and contacting us

If you send us an enquiry via the contact form, we process the details you provide (travel dates, number of guests, name, email address, phone number if given, and your message) exclusively to handle your enquiry and for possible follow-up questions. The data is transmitted to us by email; for the technical dispatch we use the email service Resend (Resend, Inc., 2261 Market Street #5039, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA) as a processor. Your details may be transferred to servers in the USA and stored there for a short time. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46 (2)(c) GDPR); a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Resend. More information: Resend Privacy Policy. We do not pass your data on to third parties without your consent.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1)(b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures or contract performance) and Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR (your consent). You can revoke your consent at any time with effect for the future, without any formality. The same applies to enquiries sent to us by phone or email.

Storage period: your data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required to process your enquiry and no statutory retention obligations apply. If a booking is made, the statutory retention periods of commercial and tax law (up to 10 years) and registration requirements under the German Federal Registration Act (registration form: 1 year) apply.

Obligation to provide data: providing your data is neither legally nor contractually required. However, without the mandatory fields of the form we cannot process your enquiry.

5. Map service OpenStreetMap (two-click solution)

For directions we optionally embed map material from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, St John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB4 0WS, United Kingdom). The map is only loaded after your explicit click; no data is transferred to OpenStreetMap beforehand. By clicking, you consent under Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR and Sec. 25 (1) TDDDG to your IP address being transmitted to the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation. An EU adequacy decision exists for the United Kingdom (Art. 45 GDPR). More information: OSMF privacy policy.

6. Consent management, cookies and local storage

This website does not use tracking or marketing cookies or analytics services. On your first visit, a consent banner informs you about the only function requiring consent (external map display, see section 5). You can choose individually:

  • Technically required: your choice made in the banner is stored in your browser's local storage (localStorage, entry “dp-consent-v2”) so the banner does not reappear on every page view. The entry contains no personal data and is not transferred to us or third parties (Sec. 25 (2) No. 2 TDDDG). Storage period: a maximum of 12 months, after which you will be asked again.
  • External maps (OpenStreetMap): optional, only with your consent (Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR, Sec. 25 (1) TDDDG), see section 5.

Withdrawal: you can change or withdraw your choice at any time with effect for the future — via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of every page or by deleting the site data in your browser. Withdrawal is as easy as giving consent (Art. 7 (3) GDPR).

7. External links to booking platforms

Our website links to external booking platforms (e.g. Booking.com). When you click these links you leave our website; the privacy policy of the respective provider then applies. Data is only transferred to these providers when you click the link.

8. Your rights

Within the scope of the statutory provisions you have the right at any time to:

  • information about your stored personal data (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • objection to processing (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • withdrawal of consent with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR)

To exercise your rights, an informal message to the contact details above is sufficient. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The competent authority for North Rhine-Westphalia is the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information NRW, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, www.ldi.nrw.de.

9. SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content (such as your enquiries to us), this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the lock symbol in your browser's address bar and by the address beginning with “https://”.

10. Currency of this privacy policy

Last updated: August 2026. We will adapt this policy as soon as changes to the website or legal requirements make it necessary.

Your privacy

This website uses no tracking or marketing cookies.
